100 Children Trained at World Championships

Media > 100 Children Trained at World Championships

AustCycle attended the UCI Road World Championships in Geelong from 29 September to 3 October 2010 to create awareness of the AustCycle program among the Australian cycling community.

The AustCycle marquee was set up in the West Park Precinct and training sessions were run only metres away from where the likes of Cadel Evans and Michael Matthews whizzed by on Pakington Street.

A major highlight for AustCycle training staff was hearing a child say “Wow, that’s the first time I’ve ever done that.”  This moment was only matched by training two adults who hadn’t been on a bike for over 20 years.  It was heartwarming to realise they would never have gotten back on a bike if AustCycle hadn’t been there.

Another highlight for Austcycle staff and Teachers Michael Hull and Kevin George was meeting Chiara Passerini, Cadel Evans’ wife.  Chiara took the gushing in her stride and was impressed by AustCycle’s message and purpose.

Around 100 children participated in the sessions over the five days, and received skills training worthy of champions.
