Who is AustCycle Training Provided by?

AustCycle training is provided by accredited cycling Teachers who have completed the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) Level 1 AustCycle Teacher Accreditation Program.
AustCycle Teachers are trained and insured to provide a wide range of cycling training to individuals and groups in the Australian community.
AustCycle Teachers work for AustCycle Providers.

What is an AustCycle Provider?

An AustCycle Provider is a business or cycling school which is licensed and insured to  deliver AustCycle training courses that their Teachers are accredited to deliver. These include courses for beginners, more experienced bike riders, and some specialised training and coaching. 

Providers are usually small businesses but can also include local councils, community groups and cycling clubs.  In many cases Providers are also Teachers.

Where is the training conducted?

AustCyle Providers will select a suitable location for training in your local area.

Beginner level programs are conducted within traffic-free areas such as schools, sports grounds and local community facillities.

More advaced training is conducted on public roads.

Mountain bike training is usually conducted in special off-road areas.

Training for employees can be conducted at your workplace if facilities are available.

What will the training consist of?

AustCycle sessions are planned around different competency levels. They are categorised as suitable for complete beginners through to intermediate and experienced riders.

How many people are there in AustCycle classes?

Class sizes will vary from one or two for beginners, to up to 12 for more advanced riders. Individual lessons are available and some specialised training is conducted in smaller groups.

AustCycle Providers can also organise school programs for classes of up to 30 children. Typically these run over two or more weeks and can include 3.5 to 10 face to face hours either during or after school.

Do I have to bring my own bike and helmet?

Participants normally bring their own bike (in good working order) and a bike helmet. If you don’t have a bike you may be able to arrange one with your AustCycle Teacher.

What is the minimum age to participate in an AustCycle program?

As part of a family group or school holiday program you can learn to ride a bike from as young as five years of age. School programs are normally for Years 4 to 6 (about 9 to 12 years of age).

  • How can I become an AustCycle Teacher or Provider?

To become an AustCycle Teacher you need to be at least 16 years of age, hold a Hold a current, recognised First Aid certificate, pass a Working with Children background check that meets State/ Territory legislation and meet all AustCycle training requirements.

AustCycle Teacher Training Requirements:

  • Complete a one-day CycleSkill Coach Training Program conducted by Cycling Australia OR complete the free online Beginner Coaching General Principles course found at https://learning.ausport.gov.au/jPortal/Courses/tabid/62/Default.aspx
  • Complete a 2-day NCAS Level 1 AustCycle Teacher Accreditation Program.
  • Any individual or organisation can become an AustCycle Provider as long as they meet the following licence criteria:
  • Agree to the AustCyle Code of Behaviour
  • Comply with AustCycle’s occupational health and safety policies and legal requirements of the State or Territory where they operate
  • Ensure Teachers are qualified, have relevant police checks and hold current first aid qualifications
