About Us > Overview
Despite the old saying ‘it’s like riding a bike’, cycling is actually a learned skill which can deteriorate with lack of use. There is a significant need for cycling education and training in the Australian community to allow more people to ride bikes; keep bike riders safe and having fun; as well as effectively using what is possibly the most efficient machine ever invented – the bicycle. AustCycle is designed to meet that need.
Balancing, pedalling, manoeuvring and stopping a bike are just the beginning of the skills needed to be a proficient bike rider. Each of these skills can be improved through training. AustCycle Teachers can help adults and children learn these skills safely, and then acquire the knowledge and skills to negotiate traffic, ride in groups and other challenging situations.
AustCycle’s aim is to deliver high quality cycling training, by accredited Teachers (trainers) to Australians of all ages so that they can ride further, more often, more confidently and more safely. This will result in healthier, happier Australians and a safer, cleaner environment.
AustCycle is a joint venture between the Amy Gillett Foundation, the Bicycle Federation of Australia and Cycling Australia.
