Veteran-touring cyclist masters the left hand side of the road in Fraser Coast

For some people, learning to balance is the hardest thing to master when getting back on a bike after a long hiatus. But for one Hervey Bay resident, riding on the left hand side of the road was the biggest challenge.

George is a veteran-touring cyclist who rode all throughout Europe as a young boy. His most impressive achievement was cycling 15,000km in 5 months, clocking between 100km and 160km each day

Recently his daughter purchased two Dutch modelled bikes for him and his wife, encouraging both to get back into cycling. They decided to attend an AustCycle course to ensure they had the right skills to cycle safely and to perfect the skill of riding on the left hand side.

Michelle Lennard, AustCycle Teacher and owner of Spokesabout, said she had three wonderful mornings teaching the family bike skills and road safety, rewarding them with free AustCycle helmets at the completion of the course.

If you live in the Fraser Coast region and would like to improve your skills and confidence on a bike, contact Michelle at Spokesabout on 0422 164 268.
